The High School, originally named Owensmouth High School, was later changed to Canoga Park High School. The organ originally constructed by the California Organ Co. in 1916, was presented to the high school as a gift by the executives of the organ company in appreciation of the education that their children had received (also as a promotion of their company in the then rapidly growing San Fernando Valley).
The organ was rebuilt in the 1970’s, supposedly by one of the teachers of the High School. All of the organ’s pipework was retained, as well as some of the Pedal, off-set chests, shutters and shutter motors, and blower. The remaining parts of the mechanism were replaced to include the remaining windchests with new pitman and electro-pneumatic windchests, and new reservoirs.
A used console was also installed. The organ was severely damaged in the 1994 Northridge earthquake. Williamson-Warne & Associates were engaged to rebuild the instrument.
During the rebuild the organ was completely disassembled, all components were cleaned, re-leathered and the earthquake damage repaired. All pipework was repaired and re-voiced to match the undamaged pipework. The organ blower and power supplies were replaced with new units.
The console was completed rebuilt utilizing a new solid-state combination action and multiplex action and all new stop components and pistons. Williamson-Warne & Associates also was responsible for repairing and painting (to the original colour) the grills in front of the organ chamber (it is interesting to note that the grills were constructed from rare Cuban Mahogany, which have been covered in paint for years).
