Where would
a harpsichord be used?
Generally harpsichords are used either as solo
instruments or with baroque/early music groups. They
have even been rented for usage in accompanying choral
groups.
What is involved in the rental of a harpsichord?
You will need to first contact Williamson-Warne & Associates
to find out the availability of the instrument that
you desire, or if any instruments are available for
the dates that you desire, plus any special requirements
(such as extra tunings). If an instrument is available
(and this instrument fits your needs) an agreement
will be forwarded on to the renter. Once the signed
agreement is received, the harpsichord is then considered
firmly reserved. On the specified date and time, the
harpsichord will be delivered to the renter.
After payment is secured, the harpsichord will be unloaded (with the assistance
of a representative of the renter) and set up in place. It will then be tuned.
On the day of the performance, the harpsichord will be retuned just prior to
the performance (or retuned prior to each performance). At the conclusion of
the last performance the harpsichord will be removed and loaded into the Williamson-Warne & Associates
vehicles.
How much will the rental cost?
The cost of rental depends on a variety of factors,
including instrument selected, season, distance
Williamson-Warne & Associates has to travel, number
of performances, and number of tunings. It is best
to inquire to receive a firm
price.
Can we come and pick up an instrument and return
it when we are done?
Absolutely not. These are very delicate and
expensive instruments, and actually owned by the owners
of Williamson-Warne & Associates. The primary reason
that they are rented out it to give them additional
usage and exposure to the public.
We have a piano technician that will be attending
the performance. Can this person tune or do repairs on the harpsichord prior
to the performance?
Again, absolutely not! Though the techniques
are similar between tuning a piano and a harpsichord,
there are distinct differences, and a harpsichord is
a much more delicate instrument, and if tuned incorrectly,
can cause damage.
