Loss evaluation / loss prevention

The recovery process.

Once the insurance claim has been filed, and the insurance company has received the estimated cost for repair/replacement of the loss, the recovery process will begin. During the claim period, the insurance company may ask for some additional information, including:

1. An additional estimate(s).

2. Some additional information about the loss, such as exact causation, or additional information to substantiate the claim (such as additional photographs).

3. An additional evaluation of the loss, either from an in-house adjuster, or from an independent adjusting firm. The independent adjusting firm may even be an organbuilding firm, which will not bid, but just offer an independent assessment of the situation.

The processing of the claim, especially after a major event (such as an earthquake or hurricane) may seem slow. Be patient. Insurance companies will inevitably be quite busy with the processing of numerous claims, and the entire process could take weeks or even months. While waiting, repairs are almost always needed for the building, which can be accomplished, or with a large number of projects, the organbuilder's schedule may be backlogged for several months or years. By signing a letter of intent, a pipe organ owner who has experienced a loss can gain a position on the waiting list while waiting for the claim to be processed.
